I don't know much anything personally about the football RPS fandom, but I'd like to say I agree with your comments to the above commenter and add that if a person really, truly 100% was in it for the buttsecks and not for social interaction they'd never post anything, or comment on the fics. They'd read, lurk, and anything they wrote would be left in the bowels of their computer for them to wank off to at leisure. Posting a fic is by its nature reaching out socially, and people form ever larger networks of people who are interested in the same things so that they can get feedback and praise and engage in discussion.
I was shocked to hear that FanLib allows comments on fics, but that you can't reply to the comments. What the hell? If we can't get into discussions and wank, why post the fics? So we can get one or two bits of praise and move on?
Damnit, I was starting to feel more comfortable about FanLib after reading the interview (though I agree with every one of your points), but now I'm annoyed by their cluelessness all over again.
