I figured that if I posted this in the comments, it might get ignored. The post that said FanLib was bought by Disney is a rumor. They've posted about the rumor on their forums, here. Check it out.

Still don't see how: No news to announce here. Remember that FanLib works with a lot of media and publishing companies and that these relationships have allowed us to bring you groundbreaking fan events like Star Trek: KvP, HarperTeenFanLit, The L Word: Fanisodes, and many others. Disney is a great company, and were excited to be speaking with them about ideas to bring new fun and excitement to fans online.

Sorry, but we can't answer any questions about our relationships with any media companies. We appreciate your tremendous creativity, and we will continue to work everyday to bring you a first class service at FanLib.com

Cheers all!

Translate to denial of rumors.

I see no reason to take a forum post as an official statement. Why doesn't FanLib tell paidcontent.org to correct their info?

The story is spreading:

It got there from paidcontent ==> CBS News ==> WDW News.

Ah. See this:

"Disney is in the process of acquiring fan fiction online community Fanlib, as well as online video start-up DigiSynd." Source:

http://www.dmwmedia.com/news/2008/06/04/report:-disney-looking-acquire-fanlib,-digisynd

Makes sense. They could be doing a deal, but it's not final. That's a viable reason for FanLib doing something half-assed like an "official" forum post denying it.

So while it may not be "true" that Disney has bought FanLib, it may be true Disney is in the process of buying it.

Harperteenfanlit was one of FanLib's paid gigs. So they are merging with themselves. *g*

A seemingly-almost-comatose paid gig that Fan Lib couldn't keep alive.

There is now a Disney news site saying it is true, listing CBS news as a source.

If this is a rumor that got out of control, then Disney and FanLib are doing a shit poor job of clearing it up. A forum post? Doesn't cut it.

Aha! Looks like CBS News picked up the paidcontent story. So how much further will this uncomfirmed story spread? Is anyone home at Disney or FanLib? Sheesh. Hey guys, time to do something official instead of posting on a forum...

A forum post. The lack of professionalism is mind-boggling.

I hadn't looked at the post at the forum. Now I see it is simply by a forum mod, not one of the company owners. So I'm even more inclined to believe the rumor.

Since the original post (http://community.livejournal.com/life_wo_fanlib/46620.html) had only 15 comments, your link would not have gotten "lost." Please do not create new posts unless they are necessary.

Obviously, no one is seeing the denial you are - perhaps a clarification? Show us where you're seeing a definitive "it's just a rumor" where so many people are reading "we can't clarify". Because I've read that post three or four times now, actively looking for that definitive denial, and I'm not seeing it.

I suppose we can be sure FanLib wasn't bought by Disney, because there is an announcement that FanLib is shutting down.

http://www.fanlib.com/home.do

I don't know if it is just the fanfic archive closing down, or if the my2centences ventures are also coming to an end.

It's possible FanLib was bought by another company, but I think that would have been announced, instead of phrasing it so baldly, "shut down."
