In this brief article in the New York Post, we learn mostly about Gilmore Girls fic at fanfiction.net.

The New York Post, a tabloid that focuses on sex scandals and celebrity breakups, tells us: "The latest entrant, Fanlib.com, is trying to cash in on the trend [fanfiction]."

Chris Williams, our beloved Mimbo [unless that's the other one], lies, "The biggest thing we offer ultimately will be the connection to the people behind the shows."

There is also this howler: "FanLib's Chris Williams said he's been surprised at the quality of the work." Um, would that be its HIGH quality or its LOW quality?

So I bopped over to Fanlib.com, vaguely thinking of looking at the forums, wondering if I'd get hit with HP spoilers.

The top "Featured Fanfic" is Dragons of the Highlord Skies (direct link to Fanlib), by "wizards-of-the-coast;" the teaser says: "Sneak a peek at Chapter 1 of Dragons of the Highlord Skies, the latest book in the Dragonlace series." (Yes, it says "Dragonlace.") It's listed as a "sponsored" story. Who knows what that means?

For those who don't know: Dragonlance is a series of books based on Dungeons and Dragons; the original trilogy came out over twenty years ago (mygods I feel OLD), and there are now literally dozens of books and game modules in the collection. (Like Star Trek, it's a world that lends well to "plus-or-minus a couple of centuries, and let's focus on this obscure group of minor characters from Book Three" stories.)

Anyway. This "Featured Fanfic" is by Wizards of the Coast... the publishers of Dungeons & Dragons and the Dragonlance series. It's Chapter One (or an excerpt thereof) of the new trilogy.

Ahhh... isn't that exactly-and-specifically NOT fanfic?
